He ran to Carrion Hill, the nearest town and decided to retire, hanging up his axe and morningstar, trading them in for a plowshare and buying a farm. Seeing no way for the two to make it out alive, Kyra sacrificed herself so Daven could run flee.ĭaven was traumatized by the death of the one person he had ever truly trusted in the world. But the undead surprised the pair and overwhelmed them. This should have been easy for the two having it done it in the past. After journeying for a year or so, the two attempted to flush out some undead from a small keep near Carrion Hill. Daven could never find any evidence of crime on the old man, and does not believe it came from him.Īfter finding the artifacts, Daven let the orphanage with Kyra, traveling Ustalav as wandering mercenaries, fighting for good and redeeming evil. By channeling the cloak, Daven takes on the aspects of thief, a lying trickster. The final object was a tattered cloak given to Daven by an old man, who died not long after. As a result of his being forgotten, the king hates for any others to be let behind. This crown once belonged to a powerful king, who is not remembered by any today. The next object was discovered by chance, a rusted and bent crown, all the gemstones stolen. However, he was egoistical and vain, always believing magic was the best option to any task. However, a great wizard once studying the book every day, and his spiritual energy rubbed off on it. The next object was a tome of spells, with several flaws that made it worthless for the purpose of copying spells and using them. By focusing on these objects, he could channel the powers of these two figures. Theorizing that if he could use the resonant spiritual power of an object like the holy symbol to channel a dead priest, Daven thought he could do the same with other psychically charged objects.Ī dwarf caravan containing weapons and armor rolled through Daven’s home town, and he found two objects that he could use for his purposes of channeling - the broken sword a legendary dwarf warrior named Victarion, who never broke a challenge to his honor and the shield of the Balans, an order of defenders who swore vows of silence to devote themselves to protecting their charges. By focusing on the holy symbol, Daven could channel the power of a dead cleric from long ago, potentially loosing control of his body. It had been passed down amongst the church of Sarenrae, who kept on to it for some reason. In the basement of the church of Sarenrae, he found the holy symbol of a priest who lived long, long ago, of a god now dead. But he could not decide what archetype of hero he wanted to be - a great knight in shining plate mail, a powerful wizard in a robe or a holy priest? His natural abilities lended him well to the idea of a warrior, but he was not satisfied with this. Daven was enthralled by these stories, and wished to emulate them. One of the most common sights at the orphanage was a traveling bard who worshipped Sarenrae, and frequently told of stories of great heroes from the past, epic tails of chivalry and virtue. Daven and Kyra stood together against the bullies, and bonded, becoming the best of friends. One of the children in the orphanage he especially bonded with: a young girl about his age named Kyra, who was descended from a lycanthrope and had feral features. Daven was horribly scarred by these taunts, and in an attempt to end the mocking took on one of their insults as his name: Hellborn. They ruthlessly mocked Daven and the other children, insulting his demonic heritage and appearance. They raised with Daven several other foundlings, most of them strange and odd, like him.īut while the church of Sarenrae was accepting of Daven, the local children of his township were not. The church of Sarenrae took in many orphans, and believed in the power of redemption - they took him in and raised him like they would any other, trying to prevent him from falling into the grasp of evil. The acolytes healed him and blessed him, allowing him to react to positive energy more positively than others. Daven was found on the steps of a church of Sarenrae soon after his birth, abandoned by his mother for his red skin, eyes, horn and tail, likely due to some long ago interbreeding with a demon in his family try.
